Join DreamBuilders in the Health and Wellness Day for the MatzoBall Run on June 6th!

DreamBuilders invites you to participate in the 17th Annual Matzohball 5K on Sunday, June 6th. By participating in this event, your efforts will benefit DreamBuilders, Grassroots and Hopeworks.

The Matzohball 5k and Howard County Family Wellness Day are bringing our community together to make wellness a priority. COVID will not stop us on Sunday, June 6, 2021, from putting on our running shoes, stepping outside and being together in spirit for the 17th Annual Matzohball 5K! On that day, even though we are virtual, we will be together, running, walking, making our health and the health of our community a priority!

In addition to offering both the Matzohball 5K run/walk and 1 Mile run at no cost to participants, Temple Isaiah will be giving 100% of all donations made through the sign-up registration process on this website to the following three charities: Grass Roots, Dream Builders and Hope Works ($65,000 donated to date). You can walk or run your own personal 5K or 1 mile course anywhere; all we ask is that you continue to maintain safe physical distancing as you run.

To register, follow this link: https://runsignup.com/…/Ellicot…/Matzohball5K1MileFunRun

Track your time using a FitBit, Apple Watch, running app, or any way you want, and even upload your results to be posted on our site! You can also use the RaceJoy app to enhance your experience with real time tracking and cheers! We hope that you will join us for all of the fun beginning with our opening ceremony, live on zoom, at 8:30am that morning. But you can choose to run or walk any day or time, starting with the 9am official start on Sunday, June 6th right up through the following Sunday, June 13th.

Beneficiaries include:

DreamBuilders is an all-volunteer, interfaith community of teens and adults building homes for those in need, locally, nationally, and internationally.

Grassroots is a multi-service crisis intervention center providing 24-hour crisis intervention services, emergency and transitional shelter, and community education.

HopeWorks provides support and advocacy for people in Howard County affected by sexual and intimate partner violence and engages the community in creating the change required for prevention.

Portable Desk Build hosted in Fort Wayne, Indiana!

Maryland DreamBuilders’ is excited to share some great news about a successful portable desk build story performed in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

It all began when Rev. Dr. William Hope, Interim Pastor, at First Missionary Church on Fort Wayne (https://www.firstmc.org/ – https://www.facebook.com/firstmcfw) saw the “Good Morning America” interview with John McBeth, DreamBuilder’s Leader.

Dr. Hope and his Administrator, Rachel Wilhelm, quickly went into action (https://www.firstmc.org/ministries/desks-for-students/)!

Dr. Hope and Rachel contacted their local public school, Harrison Hill Elementary School, downloaded the Portable Desk Implementation Guide from the Maryland DreamBuilders’ website (https://dreambuildersmd.org/dreamdesks/) then coordinated and hosted a desk build with members and friends from the local community. Their team built 96 desks in just one day, truly a remarkable feat!Check out their various news stories:

Special Thanks to Martin and Preston

Today, DreamBuilders was pleased to accept two newly built DreamBuilders Portable Desks from Martin Raabe and Preston Lauria.

Martin and Preston, juniors in high school, experienced the fun and satisfaction of participating in the DreamBuilders Portable Desk builds last year. Together with dozens of other volunteers, more than 200 Portable Desks have been constructed.

Martin and Preston turned their garage into a woodworking workshop and spent about 6 hours on each of the desks.

The young men enjoyed the opportunity, gaining the experience to construct these desks from raw materials, but more importantly, helping other students have dedicated work stations. They enjoy woodworking, robotics, engineering, architecture and music. You can read more about Martin and Preston on their website page at: https://dreambuildersmd.org/meet-martin-and-preston/

Keep up the great work and thank you! We look forward to having you join us on future desk builds.
