After a 3 year break due to the pandemic, DreamBuilders is once again embarking on a big summer trip! These trips are the original format for DreamBuilders projects, and they provide an incredible opportunity for both teens and adults to make a huge impact on the lives of those needing housing. Not only is it the return of our summer trip, it’s also the return of BLITZ BUILDS!
This summer we will be going to Hazard, Kentucky, and since this is a Blitz Build, by the end of the week we will have at least one house completely framed and weathered in- only some interior work will remain before a family can move in and start a brand new life.
Hazard, as well as much of eastern Kentucky, was hit July 28th, 2022 by what meteorologists called a “1,000 year flood.” This means that a flood of this magnitude has historically happened only once every 1,000 years. This flooding damaged close to 10,000 homes, cost over 40 people their lives and left many families already facing financial hardship with nothing. We are partnering with the non-profit Housing Development Alliance (HDA) to rebuild the home and life of at least one family in just one week this summer. Will you join us?
The cost of the trip is $600 per volunteer, which covers things such as lodging, food, and rental vehicles. A deposit of half the trip cost ($300) is due at time of registration so DreamBuilders can reserve the needed accommodations and vehicles. The remaining $300 is due by April 23rd. You are also welcome to pay in-full at time of registration.
Volunteers help with many different phases of construction. We will arrive to a block foundation ready for floor joists. Walls, setting trusses, roofing, doors, windows and siding will all be done by the end of the week! No prior experience is required- HDA will have experienced construction supervisors that will instruct and guide the work teams through each task, and no one will be asked to do a task they are not comfortable with. In addition to changing a family’s life, this is a great opportunity for both teens and adults to learn skills that will help them with their own homes!
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO JOIN THE TRIP, PLEASE FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW.
Doctor, insurance information, emergency contact numbers and health information (allergies, medication list, estimated tetanus shot date) are needed to complete your registration. Registration closes March 31st.
Deposit ($300) for the Kentucky Trip is due at time of registration. Full payments are also welcome. If not making a full payment at time of registration, remainder is due by April 23rd.
